2023 fundraising campaign

It’s with great excitement that we launch our second annual fundraising campaign to bring to fruition a project close to our hearts. The “Let’s Strike a Chord” campaign invites you to participate directly in the continuation of our Just Intonation guitar project!

In phase 1 of this project, we replaced the fretboard of a conventional guitar by attaching a new fretboard in natural harmony. Phase 2 is even more ambitious: we want to adapt a conventional guitar so that different fretboards can slide onto the neck, enabling several fretboard models to be interchanged on the same instrument, multiplying the possibilities for musical exploration.

Here’s where you come in: as part of the “Let’s Strike a Chord” campaign, it’s up to you to choose the first slide fretboard we’re going to make! We’ve carefully selected three different models, each with its own unique sound. Your contribution entitles you to a vote for the fretboard of your choice. The winning fretboard will be built following the campaign, and musical sketches performed with it will be revealed. It’s up to you to choose between the rational, the dreamy and the rebellious fretboard!

About the project

Behind this innovative project are composer Simon Martin and luthier René Wilhelmy, who aspire to elevate lutherie in Quebec to new artistic and educational heights. Simon Martin is currently developing a chord system specifically designed to facilitate the use of slide keys in natural harmony by guitarists of all levels. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Lutherie-Guitare Bruand workshop-school, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

The campaign was designed by Marion Tiberti.
